Headaches may be common, but they are not normal! Statistics say that over 45 million people suffer from headaches and migraines each year. Typically the first line of defense is pain medication, however we know that it is not healthy for us to rely on medications to cover up our symptoms. In fact, most pain medications have side effects that we cannot see immediately- like disrupting your liver function or causing stomach ulcers over time. It is almost like we are trading one evil for another! There are options for you outside of medication.  Approximately 70% of headaches are “cervicogenic” in nature, meaning that they are caused by structural and muscular imbalances in the neck. In our office we find a strong correlation between forward head posture, loss of cervical curve, and headache symptoms. We have designed a very effective treatment program for people who have these structural and muscular issues going on. Other causes of headaches can be dehydration (hello 90 degree weather!), and the fix is simply drinking more water. How easy is that?! Acute symptoms are much easier to manage when we look to find what is causing them rather than covering up the symptom. Like Thomas Edison said, “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”

In our chiropractic office, the first visit for a patient always starts out with a thorough health history. We want to know the symptom you are seeking relief for, but we also want to know the other health conditions you have going on as well. This helps us form a complete picture of what is going on and prepare the best reccomendations for care. In this conversation, topics like high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and other concerns are frequently addressed. Many people say, “yes I have that symptom, but it runs in my family so I can’t do anything about it”. Science has found that this is actually not true! Research shows that environmental factors play a much bigger role in whether or not you will develop that high blood pressure, or other health concern that you have. This is great news! Now we know that you can be victorious over those battles by changing your environmental risk factors and by improving your own resilience and adaptability. Chiropractic care has so much to offer you when it comes to improving your adaptability. Our main focus is improving the function of your nervous system, which is the control center of all activity happening in your body. If we can make sure this is working full force, then your body can process stress quicker and easier. We want to make sure that your body is experiencing peak performance. For some people, this results in a reduction of aches and pains, others have improved digestion, but all people have better health while under chiropractic care. How would this impact your life? What if you are the first generation in your family that does not experience high blood pressure? What about your kids, grandkids, and their kids? You have the power to change the trajectory of health for your entire family by implementing chiropractic care.

Have you ever taken the time to think about how the body actually works? How your stomach knows to secrete digestive enzymes when you are eating, how your lungs know how to pump air in and out rhythmically, how your cardiovascular system can circulate the appropriate about of blood throughout your body?

The amount of activity that your body is performing at any given moment is more than most of us can probably fathom. It is truly a miracle that all of these procceses can occur on autopilot and in an organized fashion to support life. But what about when it doesn’t? What about if your heart starts beating irregularly, or your stomach doesn’t have quite enough hydrochloric acid? For the majority of people, this means a trip to the MD is in order to see what prescription is needed to “fix” the problem. They start a medication in hopes that it will control the symptom they were experiencing , with little thought toward why that symptom was occuring in the first place. We want to challenge this approach.  Our suggestion is that you view symptoms as the fire alarm going off in the body and that you MUST look for the fire. Are we saying that medication is wrong? No! At least, not always. Sometimes the medication is needed to regulate the system but the medication should be looked at as a stepping stone and not your new lifestyle. New research tells us that less 2% of disease processes can actually be blamed on genetics! That means most of us have the potential to change our outcome. How amazing is that?! So when we look at the body and take a trip back to anatomy class, we find that there is a “circuit board”  or control system within our bodies that triggers all functions that occur. This circuit board is your nervous system. At its core, your nervous system is your brain and spinal cord. The spinal cord has nerves that branch off at each level in our spine, to exit the spinal canal and travel to a specific organ or tissue in your body, carrying messages from the brain to that body part telling it what to do. Certain degrees of stress will create tension on the nervous sytem and causes those nerves to alter the messages traveling between the brain and the body. Over time, this results in….. symptoms!! Sometimes pain, sometimes acid reflux, sometimes heartbeat irregularities, etc. So what if it is this tension that is ultimately causing your body to dysfunction? Does it make more sense to take a medication to control the symptom, or to find where the tension is in the nervous system? Our approach to healthcare in our office is to find the areas of tension within your nervous sytem and correct it with very gentle treatment. Creating a “checks and balances” system with your health can be the difference between spending your life scheduling your medicine and spending your life scheduling your next vacation! We hope you choose the latter. 🙂

Did you know that…..

The body is self-regulating and self-healing.

The nervous system is the master controller of the body.

Interference to the nervous sytem interferes with the body’s ability to heal and regulate.

Subluxations interfere with nervous system function.

Long term subluxations lead to chronic deterioration and dysfunction.

Chiropractic care removes subluxations!

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

This year, Revolution Chiropractic is collecting gifts for The Christmas Store, a ministry by First Baptist Church of Carrollton. The Christmas Store is an amazing organization that gives families with financial hardship the opportunity to be able to pick out gifts for their children. The people behind the mission collect gifts and set up a true “store” within the church. Families get to visit on a weekend in December and pick out one large gift plus a bag of stocking stuffers for each child.  How amazing is that?  This allows families to still experience the Christmas tradition of gift-giving.  This year, you could change the life of a child who may not get to experience tradition otherwise. When you are out shopping in the next few weeks, pick up an extra gift and drop it by our office. We are located at 18800 Preston Rd #307, Dallas TX 75252. Our office is on Preston Rd just south of George Bush Highway. Thank you for joining us!

In North Texas, high school sports are very competitive. Especially in towns surrounding Revolution Chiropractic such as Plano, Allen, and Frisco. It is not uncommon for teams to host practice two times a day, especially during the thick heat of summer when they have time off of class. During their season, they have practices, games, weightlifitng, and more. All of this physical stress adds up on their growing bodies. To subject a teenagers body to hours and hours of intense physical activity when they are still growing can be very stressful on their spine and well being. We suggest having chiropractor “on your team” to help your child adapt to the stresses they will encounter playing sports. Chiropractic care can address imbalances within the spine and nervous sytem to help them perform better, recover quicker, and decrease aches and pains. If there are misalignments present in a childs spine, it can lead to muscular imbalances, favoring one side vs the other, and contribute to poor biofeedback to their brain. Our office sees many student-athletes so that they can maintain a properly aligned spine throughout their season. Fun fact- did you know that most pro sport athletes use chiropractic care? Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Michael Jordan…just to name a few!

We utilize gentle and specific techniques to provide the best chiropractic care possible. Contact us today to schedule a complimentary consultation for your family. 972.599.7064

So a little before 4 am this morning I woke up to the sound of a leaky faucet. My first thought was,

“Great! How did I forget to turn off the faucet?!?”. After walking in the bathroom I noticed that the sound was

actually coming from my closet. Upon further investigation, I discovered that water was leak from the

light fixture down on to the carpet. “Great…. a pipe busted” was my first thought. I called the

maintenance guy and 30 minutes later he showed up to a now steady flow of water. He told be

to use a trashcan to catch the water as while he went to hunt down the problem.

You see, this happens more than we care to admit. We all have a leak in our closet, our

symptoms. We are taught that the lack of symptoms equal being healthy, when in reality

symptoms are a warning sign for a bigger issue that s going on. We tend to focus on making

the symptoms go away. So if have a headache or so pain you take painkillers. If you have

asthma you take an inhaler, digestive issue for take curl up in the fetal position or take

something to help ease the symptoms. Notice a trend? It would be comparable to the maintenance guy just

put caulk around the light fixture tp stop the leak and saying”Ok all fixed!”. Now I’m saying to

stop treating the symptoms. I definitely wanted the symptom, my leaky light fixture, treated and

fixed. However, what I am saying is that we have to also get to the cause of the symptom or you are

going to be in a life long battle of always treating the symptom. You see, the maintenance man

went looking for the cause and found out that the water heater busted. The root cause of the

problem never was the leak in the closet, it was the water heater. In your body the nervous

system controls and coordinates everything in your body. So when the spine is misaligned, it puts pressure

on the nerves in back causing tension, Irritation and inflammation. This can lead to different

symptoms throughout the body. So instead of treating the symptoms, we look at what is causing

the symptoms in the first place, and make sure the spine is aligned properly. When we reduce the tension, irritation

and inflammation on the nerves, we allow the body to begin the healing process. If you are experiencing any

symptoms, please do not wait contact a chiropractor today. No one likes to treat symptoms for the

rest of their life.

Who do you know that is affected by Parkinson’s disease?

It is estimated that over 8 million people worldwide live with Parkinson’s disease. This disease affects your nervous system and is categorized as a progressive movement disease- meaning that it will get worse over time. The science is still out on this health concern though; there is no standard diagnostic test. The diagnosis depends on a neurological history and observations of physical symptoms. New research is suggesting that a depletion of the neurotransmitter called Dopamine is associated with Parkinson’s and the imaging test called DaTscan can give insights to a patient’s levels.

MOTOR SYMPTOMS-                                                  NONMOTOR SYMPTOMS-

Difficulty moving                                                            Anxiety

Balance                                                                                Depression

Rigidity                                                                                Mood swings

Postural difficulties                                                        Dementia

Dysphagia                                                                           Constipation

Muscle pain                                                                         Orthostatic hypotension

Slowness of movement                                                Excessive sweating

We have found that specific chiropractic care can have a huge influence on the symptoms of this disease. The chiropractic adjustment improves the function of the nervous system, restores motion, and stimulates natural dopamine regulation. Our doctors utilize Torque Release Technique, a gentle and specific approach that allows us to get great results. Being a habitual people watcher, one thing that I see people do that makes me cringe is self-adjust, or crack their back. I know you have seen it. I even used to do it. Your neck or back feels a little bit uncomfortable… so you twist you back as much as possible to the right and then to the left, hear a pop and get “relief”. The same applies to the neck, and sometimes I even see people put tension on their chin in order to get that audible. It is a common thing to do when your muscles are tight or you are in pain. So the question is “are you getting real relief from popping? What is the real reason you are hurting?”

Before we address those questions, let’s look at the precursor or the cause of what is truly going on. What is actually causing the pain or discomfort that is prompting people to pop their back?

Let’s start simple. The brain is the computer of the body and tells all of the cells, tissues and organs what to do. The brain sends these messages to the body through the spinal cord. The spinal cord then sends the messages to the body via the nerves. The spinal cord is protected by the 24 movable bones that make up your back. Now the nerves exit to spine and go to every part of the body. They also cause you to feel pain and dis-ease.

Ok great, so how does that help me understand the cause? Well the 24 bones that make up the spine can shift out of proper alignment and not move sufficiently. This causes irritation and inflammation around the nerves coming out of the spine, interfering with the communication between the brain and these body parts.

I know what you are thinking. This is great! I can twist my back, hear a pop and get my bones moving again. Well I wish… but it is not that simple. The noise or feeling of twisting and popping your back does not indicate that any correction has been done. In fact, that sensation is simply CO2 entering and leaving the joint space and the relief will be temporary at best.

There is no relationship between sound (popping) and improvement in pain. In addition, when you pop your own back you can end up causing long term damage due to overstretching of muscles and ligaments supporting the spine. Unfortunately this can lead to loss of stability in the spine. There is also the possibility that it desensitizes the nerve receptors. Long story short….. popping your own back doesn’t fix the problem, it just cause long term damage which can lead to more problems.

So what is the solution? Chiropractors are highly trained to locate the bones in the back that are not moving properly. They can make an adjustment in the proper direction needed to align the bones so that they can move correctly without unnecessary strain being placed on the joint. With a proper adjustment, the motion in the joint is restored and the irritation and inflammation decreases, allowing the brain to send and receive communicating to and from the body. So before you turn to twist and pop your back, go see a chiropractor to get real relief today![/wr_text][/wr_column][/wr_row]

Asthma and Chiropractic

Today we want to share a very special story with you. This young gentleman started chiropractic care when he was only 11 years old. He had suffered from severe asthma for a very long time, needing to use an inhaler multiple times a week just to get through the day. His family brought him in to Revolution Chiropractic to see if it could help at all, and it definitely did. Darion went from using his inhaler multiple times a week to only needed it a few times in a couple of months! How amazing is that? Chiropractic care helped improve the function of his nervous system so that he could respond to his environment better, and not suffer from such severe asthma. Watch this video to hear it from him:
