Headaches may be common, but they are not normal! Statistics say that over 45 million people suffer from headaches and migraines each year. Typically the first line of defense is pain medication, however we know that it is not healthy for us to rely on medications to cover up our symptoms. In fact, most pain medications have side effects that we cannot see immediately- like disrupting your liver function or causing stomach ulcers over time. It is almost like we are trading one evil for another! There are options for you outside of medication.  Approximately 70% of headaches are “cervicogenic” in nature, meaning that they are caused by structural and muscular imbalances in the neck. In our office we find a strong correlation between forward head posture, loss of cervical curve, and headache symptoms. We have designed a very effective treatment program for people who have these structural and muscular issues going on. Other causes of headaches can be dehydration (hello 90 degree weather!), and the fix is simply drinking more water. How easy is that?! Acute symptoms are much easier to manage when we look to find what is causing them rather than covering up the symptom. Like Thomas Edison said, “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
